No Day at the Beach

Do people even know Miami Beach has a history that includes more than retired folks, Cocaine Cowboys and the uber rich? Sadly most may not, but this Sunday you can become one of the cognoscenti when you get a crash course on an important piece of that lost narrative.

Between 1942 and 1945, 500,000 men took over hotels and buildings in Miami Beach for housing and training purposes this became known as Camp Miami Beach. The 11th Annual Sand in Your Boots is an interactive history display complete with soldiers, weapons and equipment that was used in what was once called “the most beautiful boot camp in America.” Among the equipment are authentic World War II aircrafts, trucks and jeeps, so rather than gawking at the Lambo granny driving down Ocean Drive you can check out something new, AKA old.
