How to Raise a Comedian

Parents of the world, if you have an overly energetic child, hedge your bets by cultivating the kid’s ADD rather than crushing his ebullient little soul. With a healthy dose of parental support, your tiny spaz might one day become a showbiz hotshot.

One fine product of this parenting technique is Tacoma-bred, LA-based comedian Jo Koy who credits his mother with kickstarting his early career by helping him stage home performances. Since then, Koy has cut a path from Mom’s place to spots on Comedy Central and BET, plus performances on Leno, Kimmel, Chelsea Lately, and Last Call with Carson Daly. And now, Koy will stop off at the Miami Improv this Saturday to tell funny stories about his own recent adventures fathering a “crazy midget,” AKA young comedian.
