Don’t Question the Q

The Miami Heat is off to its hottest start in franchise history. Much of the ball-bashing goodness is due, of course, to Dwyane Wade’s usual bad-ass-ness. And watching Michael Beasley grow up before our eyes as the once-and-future starting power forward has been a delight. But an unsung hero seems to have emerged as well: small forward and former New York Knick Quentin Richardson. The consensus reaction to Miami signing Richardson in the off-season was pretty much, “Huh?” followed by a resounding, “Why?” closed out by a resonant, “Meh.” But Q is averaging 10.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. The former first-round pick is playing tough defense and doing the little things that make a big difference. He has earned a starting spot, and so far everything is falling into place for the Heat. Suck on that, Knicks!

Miami will host the New Orleans Hornets this Sunday at the American Airlines Arena. Tip-off is at 6 pm. Tickets start at $10.
Sun., Nov. 22, 6 p.m., 2009
