Something Old, Something Borrowed, Something Blue

Heirloom jewels may be something to scoff at when you’re turning Sweet 16 and want those shiny diamond studs from Tiffany & Co. But once you’ve matured and realized that there were beautiful pieces made before the Bling Bling Era, you’ll notice the value in a piece with a history not your own. And you’ll subsequently learn to visit traveling collections of wonder such as the 17th Annual Miami Beach Antique Jewelry & Watch Show, where collectors from around the globe cull exotic gems and present them on a velvet-flocked platter.

From November 13-15, the Miami Beach Convention Center will be transformed into a 100,000-square-foot version of one of those satin-lined jewel boxes on your grandma’s nightstand — glittering with opulence and full of shit you shouldn’t touch. More than 100 dealers from around the world will be showing off their sparkling wares — from cameos to rare jewels and gemstones with enough shine to make the toughest homegirl fall deep in love. Show hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. A one-time fee of $15 gets you in all three days.
Fri., Nov. 13, 11 a.m.; Sat., Nov. 14, 11 a.m.; Sun., Nov. 15, 11 a.m., 2009
