Laugh Me a River

Few people can boast the success Joan Rivershas achieved during her half-century on the stage. Since reaching stardom on The Tonight Show in the ’60s, the raspy-voiced fossil has gone on to become a best-selling author, Tony-nominated actress, playwright, screenwriter, motion picture director, columnist, lecturer, and syndicated radio host. Plus she’s also an Emmy Award-winning TV talk-show host, jewelry designer, and red-carpet fashion wag. Yet some people believe the comedic icon has spent her lifetime trying hard to become someone else. When she takes the stage this Wednesday at the Arsht Center, Rivers, with her self-deprecating humor, will try even harder to peel away the mask she’s paid plastic surgeons a fortune to create. Catch America’s rudest woman at 8 p.m. during her one-night-only performance, where she will sling barbs while boasting more Botox than her audience. Tickets start at $34.50.
Wed., Nov. 11, 8 p.m., 2009
