Popular American cinema is dead, and the Hollywood Sign sleeps with the fishes. Our information age’s data flood has drowned it in a sea of digital leisure time. Francis Ford Coppolarecently put it more succinctly to a Bloomberg interviewer in Beirut. “The cinema as we know it is falling apart,” he said, adding that he sees the industry going toward directors’ real-time interaction with the audience.
