There was a time when the word swing evoked memories of flying through the air with a cascade of chain links tethering you to a rickety wooden frame. But now, thanks to guys named Ted, their wives named Maureen, and their kinky neighbors named Don and Susan, swinging means two couples switching partners and doing the horizontal do-si-do. Called simply “the lifestyle,” swinging is about being sexually liberated and honest with your partner. It’s not for everyone, but those who are willing and able should meet at the Hilton Miami Downtown for SwingFest 2009.

This Thursday through Sunday, adventuresome couples from around the world will meet and greet, screw and eat, and take classes on how to approach a potential third wheel. There’ll be parties, adult playrooms, and requisite trips to the nudie beach, where frolicking is accepted and rules are meant to be bent a little. Visit swingfestevents.com for listings and ticket prices.
