Avant Garde en Español

Through satire, writers, playwrights, and poets — from the Greco-Romans to Shakespeare to Stephen Colbert — have questioned our perception of reality. The Teatro en Miami Studio, a young theater company in the heart of Little Havana, hopes to elicit some hearty guffaws and provocative questions about the nature of “truth” through its production of Así Es (Si Así Os Parece), or So It Is (If You Think So). Teatro’s performance of Sandra Garcia’s adaptation of the original play by Nobel Laureate Luigi Pirandello will be in Spanish with English subtitles, but it’s worth seeing even if your español can’t get you a coffee on Calle Ocho. The adaptation retains the integrity of Pirandello’s parody, defying the conventions of 20th-century naturalism and flipping the script on what you thought was real. Showtime is 8:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, and tickets cost $20.
Fri., Oct. 23, 8:30 p.m.; Sat., Oct. 24, 8:30 p.m., 2009
