Sweat for Vets

Ever wondered what it feels like to finish a three-round professional MMA fight? To push yourself, over and over, past the limits of your strength and conditioning? You can find out this Saturday and, in the process, make a valuable donation to war veterans and prostate cancer research.

The fourth annual Fight Gone Bad, a fundraiser that takes places at Crossfit gyms across the nation, is hosted locally this year by I Am Crossfit. The event is simple: Show up between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. in workout clothes, carry a donation of at least $20, and get ready for the hardest 17-minute workout of your life. Fight Gone Bad consists of five exercise stations that each participant cycles through three times. MMA fighter B.J. Penn gave the workout its name by commenting — after he’d caught his breath — it was just like “a fight gone bad.” All proceeds will go to two organizations: Athletes for a Cure and the Wounded Warrior Project. Spectators too chicken to try Penn’s workout are also welcome to come, scream, and donate, in addition to enjoying the potluck Paleo food and music.
Sat., Sept. 26, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., 2009
