The plot sounds like a typical 1990s Mel Gibson film: wealthy industrialist, kidnappers, a lot of time on the phone, and Give me back my son! But in the hands of Kurosawa, its a wonderfully tense story drenched in silence and nervous shakes. Stealing is stealing, but Kurosawa did it first, and better. The theft begins this Thursday at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for members, $10 for non-members.
