They're What?

Why try to originally opine on the sounds of the heavy Miami trio Vultures Are Wolves when the band's MySpace page is so darn descriptive? There they tag themselves as being appropriate for fans of "repulsive uncontrolled chaos" and sounding like "blasts of bloated diarrhea spit." These carcass-feeders, though, are nowhere near as unlistenable as all of that -- perhaps they'd rather just scare off the faint at heart to leave their fans more room to dance. Well, maybe not dance per se. This band's fast, thrashy onslaught is an awesome soundtrack for all-out destruction. Obtusely titled songs such as "The River Took Dee Snyder" and "Cancer Tale of the Hyena" vibrate with thrash tempos, occasional death-metal-style screams, and some of the straight-up scary weirdness of classic hardcore psychos Converge. With all of that, they make the other bands on Friday's bill sound downright gentle. West Palm Beach fivesome the Ugly Harts plays a straightforward form of punk rock that combines a ragged street edge with a good dose of pop catchiness. The Pompano Beach sextet TV Kills Kids, meanwhile, is probably the most left-field act on the bill. There seems to be one band member here for every major youth musical genre -- songs somehow feature hardcore yells, Transplants-style raps, pop-punk choruses, and synth lines.
