Six Strings to Relaxation

The recession, construction on I-95, the oppressive heat--there are plenty of reasons to be stressed out this summer in Miami, and that's why it's nice to be able to escape to that tiny, air-conditioned oasis on 125th street we know as the Luna Star Cafe. Run by inimitable Alexis Sanfield, the Luna Star continually provides a very un-Miami sanctuary of great food, over 100 exotic beers, and of course, live music.

The cafe promises to be doubly relaxing this Thursday night when local acoustic musician SJ takes over between 8 and 10:30 p.m. A self-made, self-produced, self-marketed independent act, SJ favors emotional honesty over flashy formalism, and his sound is a hybrid of other acoustic strummers like Nick Drake, John Martyn, Dave Matthews, Damien Rice, Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, and Cat Stevens. If that list sounds good to you, you won't be disappointed.

And if the idea of relaxing with a cold microbrew in an intimate setting, with just plain good music floating into your ears, is your idea of a perfect Thursday evening, then there's no where else to be.
