Get Low, Low, Low

Black Sheep as we know it may be extinct, but its erstwhile proprietor, Juan Basshead, is still dedicated to the low frequencies. As such, he's got a hand in a number of wall-rattling events around town, and on Thursday, August 6, he and the Shake crew reunite for Get Low, a monthly dubstep night at the Vagabond. While Shake's usual kitchen-sink hip-hop goodness goes on in the bar room, the club's main room gets turned over to everything dark, dirty, and deep. Anglophilic dance music trainspotters should get extra hyped for this edition, headlined by DJ/producer N-Type, from all the way across the pond. His sound is stark and full of those processed basslines, but it's not just one warping sound after another. Rather N-Type's sound is relatively broad, mixing in liberal doses of cut-and-paste hip-hop samples, old-school jungle-style breaks, and the occasional ragga vocal. Those tired of the happy-all-the-time disco cheese of much electro-come-lately will find an antidote in N-Type's set, which promises to take the vibe back to that of a real apocalyptic rave. By the way, the doctor recommends dubstep for aches and pains. Show up to the Vagabond and simply lean against the bar, or, for those persistent knots, against the bass cabinet.
