Dog Days of Summer

Born in the gangsta rap vacuum of the late ’90s, DMXseemed to have a lock on the pop charts. With monster club track "Party Up (Up in Here)" and a five-time platinum album, the Dog was riding real ruff in ’99. And being a true street entrepreneur, he immediately got into the crossover game, expanding his brand into movies (Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, Romeo Must Die) and books (E.A.R.L.: The Autobiography of DMX) while still detonating Billboard killers every couple of years.

But all of that ended post-2006 when, after releasing the mediocre Year of the Dog... Again, DMX dropped off the media map. No more movies. No more books. He only resurfaced this past May following a 90-day prison sentence for animal cruelty, drug possession, and theft. Now, though, the Dog is finally out of jail and back in the club. This Saturday at 11 p.m., the Yonkers-bred rapper will deliver his first show at SoBe Live, as part of Live Your Life Saturdays. Tickets cost $20, but ladies get complimentary admission and free drinks till midnight. Let’s pray the Dog stays saintly.
Sat., Aug. 8, 11 p.m., 2009
