If you’re into crazy freeform jazz, get your kicks this Sunday during Straight Jazz/No Chaser, an outdoor concert at the SoBe Institute of the Arts, located in the historic Carl Fisher Clubhouse. Cool off the thick July air by grooving to the sounds of Dei 7, a project of jazz vocalist Derin Young, a singer who has wailed with the likes of Lenny Kravitz and Living Colour and whose Afro-Cuban stylings are steeped in the traditions of jazz and blues. Young’s genius will be joined by Venezuelan pianist-composer Silvano Monasterios, whose ivory tickling was nominated for a Grammy in 2008 and will be enjoyed by you, all in the name of a new brand of urban jazz. This Cultural Production-sponsored happening, complete with a cash bar, begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $20 at the door and benefit the educational programs at the SoBe Institute of the Arts.
