Pardon the cheesy pun, but Bomba Estereo is blowing shit up! The Colombian outfit has made quite a name for themselves internationally since forming in Bogota. After letting the creative juices simmer abroad, 2009 is the year they finally take over the States, winning over fans with their unique blend of electro, dub and hip hop with the distinctly Colombian flavors of cumbia and champeta. The five-piece group debuted at SXSW to a ravenous crowd and spent last week laying siege to New York City during the venerable meeting of the alternative minded that converges on the Big Apple annually, known as LAMC (Latin Alternative Music Conference). After an exhausting string of 7 shows during the conference, including an opening gig for Calle 13 at Summer Stage, Bomba Estereo is making their way to the 3-OH!-5. Cocaine, perfecting the art of cosmetic surgery AND Bomba Estereo? Man, those Colombians think of everything!
