Left, Left, Left, Paint, Left

I don’t know but I’ve been told, abstract painting looks mighty old.

Oh, we could make “If the art world ran the Army...” jokes forever. The uniforms would be all-black pantsuits made by Prada. All the bases would be in picturesque European cities, and the generals (Gagosian, Landesman, Hirst, Deitch) would either be too busy arguing with each other to launch an offensive, or would be conspiring Cheney-style to attack the Upper Eastside and give the rebuilding contracts to themselves.

Fortunately, there’s still a healthy separation between the military and the militantly creative, and the closest the two come to joining forces is at the Contemporary Art Boot Camp at MoCA. This month’s one-hour lecture by MoCA’s curator of education, Dr. Adrienne von Lates, is titled “Pleasure Principle in Art.” Free with any $12 museum admission, the lecture series brings art world knowledge to the masses, not at gunpoint but at laser-point.

Consider yourself educated, soldier.
