He’s doomed to pant like a marathon runner and mop the floor with his tongue from April till September. So this weekend, give Fido something to look forward to that doesn’t involve walking around the block in 100-degree heat. In fact, he’ll be elated to know that the Village of Merrick Park is celebrating the Doggy Days of Summer by opening up to canines of all kinds — except unleashed. From 2 to 6 p.m. every Sunday through August, if you spend $25 at the upscale mall, you can get a framed photo of your pooch and a chance that your pup will become America’s Next Top Furry Creature. Tyra Banks won’t be there to outfit Fluffy in a fire-red weave, but you can certainly tell your doggy diva (or divo) she’s the fiercest thing on four feet. After the photo shoot, have a meal at one of Merrick Park’s many alfresco eateries, or buy an ensemble (with four holes of course) fit for the most loyal member of your family. Just don’t let the day go to the dogs.
