See Spanish Royalty Rock

With 30 years under her belt as a singer and an actress, Paloma San Basilio is something of a Spanish icon. She's starred in such theatrical revivals in Madrid as The Man of La Mancha, My Fair Lady, Victor/Victoria and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita and she's released close to 30 records since her debut in 1975. Along the way, she's picked up a Latin Grammy and recorded with the legendary Placido Domingo and Emilio Jose. Even if you still didn't know her from all that, you might have seen her face wallpapering the East side for the past few months as promoters advertised her upcoming Miami date.

She'll be stopping off in our fair city this coming Sunday, July 12 at the James L. Knight Center along her tour of Latin America (and how could she leave out Miami?), somewhere between Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Panama. The PSB Tour makes allusion to both for her initials and Piano, Saxo y Bajo, the title of her latest album, which leaves aside pop stylings for the intimacy of jazz. And fans can expect just that from Paloma's upcoming live show, a more intimate setting harking back to the smoky vocal jazz shows of yesteryear....minus the smoke, and perhaps a little closer in age to the times of yore than yesteryear.
