Woe are the parents with children who are filmmaking prodigies. At least if Junior is playing soccer, the most he could possibly ask you to shell out for is a pair of new Copa Mundial cleats. But if he’s a budding Scorsese? “Hey, Mom, I need a new Panavision, an eight-pack of Kino Flos, a Bazooka stand, a Western dolly, 200 feet of track, and a retainer fee for Ryan Gosling.”

The payoff is that he could be the next Michael Bay, in which case you can kiss that minivan goodbye. “Get my mother a Hummazine!”

Some of the next great celluloid auteurs could be among the most recent crop of local students to graduate from Miami Light Project’s Filmmakers Boot Camp, a four-week intensive course that culminates this Friday with a screening of the kids’ completed works. If you’ve been there before, you know these young people can straight shoot, so don’t come out of sympathy. Come to be entertained, or to get an early jump on becoming Suzie’s agent. The films show from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Light Box Studio. Admission is free, but RSVP to 305-576-4350 is required.
