Imagine, if you will, how it felt to be the first person in history to combine rice and beans. Or if that’s not your thing, ketchup and French fries. Ice cream and bacon? Vodka and Red Bull? Paris Hilton and night vision?

Well, some clever City of Miami employee knows exactly how it feels, because he/she added to the pantheon of All-Time Greatest Combinations of Two Things We Never Realized Went Together by pairing swimming and cinema to create Dive-In Movies. First of all, the name is 18 kinds of awesome, a true example of addition by subtraction, but the event is even better. Beginning at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, swimmers in the José Martí Park pool will be treated to a free screening of a recently released film. Just bring a towel and waterproof popcorn. Call 305-575-2103 or visit miamigov.com/cms/ and click “Events.”
