Since Frank Sinatras passing in 1998, a lot of young jazz vocalists have been vying for the vacated title belt of Chairman of the Board. A couple Harry Connick Jr., Michael Bublé have come close, but none has yet matched that irresistible combo of dashing and dangerous. The newest contender is Tony DeSare, a 29-year-old pianist who came to prominence by starring as Ol Blue Eyes in the off-Broadway musical Our Sinatra. His trio contains famed guitarist (and former Sinatra collaborator) Bucky Pizzarelli, and no one can deny the kid has a certain 1940s Brooklyn charm. So let the comparisons continue, but lets hope he stays away from organized crime. DeSare and his trio keep it old-school this Thursday night at 8 at Coral Gables Congregational Church, across from the Biltmore Hotel.
