Follow the Sign

Neon burns in the night sky, declaring, “Bar. Liquor. Open.” Though the sign has dimmed in the past — most recently when Circa 28 was unceremoniously closed — what lies inside has never changed. Electric Pickle is neither watering hole nor dance club but instead more of sign of things to come along the barren stretch of North Miami Avenue that cuts through the core of Wynwood.

Breathing life into the warehouse district, one mid-week at a time, is Champion Sound, a hip-hop, soul, and funk party hosted by IamYourVillain, the group of people also responsible for South Beach mainstays Chocolate Sundays at Purdy Lounge and Takeout Tuesdays at Buck15. Their DJs making your hump day a little easier are Mr. Brown, Sire Esq., and A-Train (along with a few special guests), who churn out the smooth groves. (BTW: The last Wednesday of every month features live bands, if that’s your thing.)

Ladies drink free from 10 to 11:30 p.m., while everyone enjoys five-dollar beers all the way to 4 a.m. The party is free with RSVP to championsoundmiami@gmail.com, but you must be over 21. Sorry, shorties.
