First the French gave us the Statue of Liberty, then our girls learned to grow armpit hair, and there’s the “auteur theory.” The concept holds that a true work of art bears the indelible stylistic imprint of the person who created it.

Decide if that’s true at South Florida’s own monthly culture fest, Auteur Explosion, now in its seventh incarnation at Cinema Paradiso in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Holly Peno, co-founder of Shameless Burlesque, an erotic dance troupe, says that just as vaudeville was a theater for the people, so's her collective’s show. “[It’s] sexy and approachable,” she says. “Come enjoy the illusion, the tease, and the sampling of nakedness mixed with comedy and music.” Bands The Seeds of Evolution, The Craven, and Astari Night will perform, art exhibits will be hanging out, short films and featurettes will screen at midnight, and shadow, belly and naughty dancers will keep you stimulated. The event is organized by Underlab Studios, an organization that encourages the creative output of the local community.
