They Design, You Dine

In the 18-block district that hosts this town’s most cutting-edge furniture stores, chichi design, and high-minded art galleries, Miami New Times and the City of Miami present the first annual Design & Dine at the Buena Vista Building. From 7 to 11 p.m., local designers, artists, restaurants, and musicians will join forces to celebrate the launch of this year’s “Best of Miami” issue.

DJs from the Vagabond as well as Bahamian jam and Latin rock bands will set the soundtrack while local artists showcase their work. Hialeah-born street artist Aholsniffsglue will be in attendance along with will cartoon expressionist David “LEBO” LeBatard and Miami’s Oliver Sanchez, who last year created “Bordello Bodega,” a convenience store/social club outside his NE First Court studio. At Design & Dine, models will don cocktail dresses with Lolita-esque ruffles by Shumaq, the Barrantes sisters’ fashion label, while 25 bistros, bakeries, and cafés will supply grub for tasting. And with an open bar and a free afterparty at the Vagabond, the designing and dining might go all night. Tickets cost $20 presale or $30 at the door, with proceeds benefiting Hands On Miami.
