One thing Wynwood is short on is trees, which somewhat spoils the prospect of strolling around and peeking your head into art galleries during the month of June. But the folks at Artformz Alternative have decided if you can’t beat the sun, you might as well join him, which is why they’re running with the theme of urban humidity for their summer-long exhibition, "Hotter than a Matchhead."

If you didn't already catch the reference from the atrocious pun in the title of this piece, the name is derived from the 1966 Lovin' Spoonful song "Summer in the City" and the idea is that, while Wynwood's concrete jungle will be scorching, the Artformz Alternative gallery will be a cool oasis, not only because of its central air conditioning but also because of the new work inside by Natasha Duwin, Sibel Kocabasi, Ray Paul, P.J. Mills, Alette Simmons-Jimenez, Rosario Rivera-Bond, and others. So before the heat makes you crazy, stop in (for free) between noon and 7 p.m. and refresh yourself.
