Hey, you, under the rock, there’s a really cool festival every year that brings short plays to Miami. It’s called Summer Shorts, and it includes productions for the young’uns (Shorts 4 Kids), some that are simply awesome and dramatic or hilarious (Signature Shorts), and others so dirty they should bear an NC-17 rating (the bawdy Undershorts). The 14th annual Summer Shorts Festival is the solution to your ever-waning attention span — snappy, one-act pieces that last anywhere from five to 20 minutes. Beginning this Thursday, check out works from previous festival favorites such as Christopher Durang, whose comedy “Hardy Boys and the Mystery of Where Babies Come From” answers your burning questions about Nancy Drew’s uterus, and SoFla’s own Michael McKeever’s production of “Splat!” a spin-off of The Wizard of Oz that will make you never want to click your heels and return home. Tickets cost $42. The festival runs through June 21 at the Arsht Center’s Carnival Studio Theater. Visit citytheatre.com to map out your play-viewing strategy.
Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: May 28. Continues through June 21, 2009
