Run, Walk, or Skip for the Cause

CNN would like to make it seem as if the country is ready to go postal over the rising price of a pizza, but make no mistake about the state of America: We're not simply obsessed with how the economy is affecting our love for conspicuous consumption. The reality is that beyond the sudden large-scale impact, people who needed help before this downturn still need help now, and plenty of it. So this Sunday, lace up your Nikes for AIDS Walk Miami, one of the oldest and largest walks of its kind in the nation and one that hands over the proceeds to local outreach programs such as Care Resource, Food for Life, Empower-U, and the Center for Positive Connections.

The funds you raise from sponsors will help the community as you walk, run, or blade the five-kilometer stretch. (According to the Centers for Disease Control, Miami-Dade ranks number one in the country for HIV/AIDS infections.)
