Big Art, Little Haiti

Wynwood's art walk, held the second Saturday of every month, has no shortage of opening receptions for new exhibitions, but since most of them are for emerging artists, it's nice now and then to see someone a little more established. In that vein, we recommend "Mostly Mutants," a show of new work by Haitian-born but locally residing artist Edouard Duval-Carrié.

With work held in nine public institutions and a long list of solo shows dating back to 1986, Duval-Carrié has more than a seasoning, but his aesthetic continues to develop in these mixed-media works that stretch his enthusiastic use of color into a new sensitivity. Ever critical of his native country's political situation, Duval-Carrié also continues to find new ways to celebrate its beauty.
