Woodblock Party

Japanese Art Comes to Coconut Grove

Everyone has seen Hokusai's The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, but the rich tradition of Japanese woodblock print has much more to offer. Collectors Shirley and Gilbert Luber spent one month every year for 30 years scouring Japan for the best examples of this exquisite art form. Now their efforts will be on display at the Midori Gallery in Coconut Grove.

"Triptych: The Narrative Art of Historical Japan" focuses on woodblock prints that were divided into three sections. Each is its own work of art, but together they form a greater story.

Introductory remarks will be made by the Hon. Hiroshi Yamaguchi, consul general of Japan, and traditional drum and flute music will be performed by Fushu Daiko.
