Let Him Toot His Own HornBy Ernest BarteldesPublished on April 02, 2009 at 3:01amBranford Marsalis, the oldest of the virtuoso Marsalis brothers, just might be one of the hardest-working men in showbiz. The New Orleans-born saxophonist began his career in the 80s with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, and thanks to his musical eclecticism, he has also performed as a sideman with the likes of Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Sting. Amid juggling production for his record label, performing alongside younger sibling Wynton with Jazz at Lincoln Center, and leading his acclaimed jazz quartet, its a wonder he has time to toot his own horn.
