Sunday School for Degenerates Returns for Another Debauched Techno Marathon

For three years, the folks at NYC's Made Event have brought to Miami their all-star amalgam of underground overlords. And for each of those three years, their closing party, Sunday School for Degenerates, has proven the ultimate way to close WMC.

More About

In 2009, year four promises to be an even bigger and better way to end the week's madcap festivities. Why? Because this time, Made's Sunday School for Degenerates will be in session at the Ice Palace, perhaps the Magic City's most magnificent, underused venue.

You want room to move? You've got it — 143,000 square feet, to be precise. You need time on your side? Well, you've got that too, for 24 full hours, beginning at 10 p.m. Saturday night. But going round-the-clock in a joint as huge as the Ice Palace is only part of the reason you'll be joining the Degenerates in '09. The other — and most important — is that this Sunday School boasts enough devout action to start its own religion.

According to the hype sheet, this year the idols are Adultnapper, Argy, Barem, Cassy, D'Julz, Guy Gerber, Ida Engberg, Joris Voorn, Marco Carola, Martin Landsky, Mathias Kaden, Matthew Dear, Mr. C, Onur Ozer, Ryan Crosson (live), Seth Troxler, Solomun, Steve Bug, and Stimming (live). There will be more, of course, and it's generally more than you could imagine.

In '08, minimalist Richie Hawtin swung through for a surprise guest set, as did counterpart kingpins Luciano and Steve Bug. In fact, Bug dug the scene so much he decided to make his appearance there official this year. And since the Poker Flat-backed track master seems to be kin with everybody in Berlin and beyond, it's a cinch he'll be sneaking in with a few good friends.

Noted for their blow-out throwdowns in Big Bad Apple hot spots such as Rebel and The Yard, the Degenerates seem to be inordinately adept at making milestones out of whole cloth. Perhaps it's all that Sunday Schooling that's given them a leg up. Then again, the only lessons this gang has ever learned probably came about because they skipped class and founded their very own institution. Believe that.
