If bleeding-edge performances quaff your thirst for adventure, the Miami Light Project is poised with a potent brew to scald daring taste buds. The Light’s Here & Now 2009 fest offers some of the 305’s sizzling talent in three distinct commissioned shows delivering the sugar lumps with aplomb. “Sipping Fury from a Tea Cup,” by Elizabeth Doud and Jennylin Duany, mixes heady choreography, photo studies of insects and the animal world, and an original music soundscape to explore the mystery of disappearing bees.

Rosie Herrera’s “Various Stages of Drowning: A Cabaret” conjures dream states through dance theater, opera, and surrealism. Hijacking H20 as a metaphor for the unconscious, she features a cast of 14 dancers, singers, bakers, drag queens, and ten birthday cakes to sweep spectators away on a vivid journey through dreams and drowning, while “Symbol,” by Alexey Puig Taran, hits the heavens with aerial dance, video art, and music to plumb the depths of poetry. The show goes on this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Arsht Center (1300 Biscayne Blvd, Miami). Tickets cost $20. Call 305-949-6722, or visit arshtcenter.org or miamilightproject.com.
