Ahoy, Spectators

Sail away with the 2009 Acura Miami Grand Prix.

There’s nothing more addictive than the rush of being aboard a world-class racing vessel heeled over at high speed. For true sailing freaks, it’s the kind of buzz that’s categorically better than sex. Sadly, though, big-time boating costs more than a ten-pound bag of natural black pearls. So if you — like us — are a would-be sailor rather than the real thing, come claim your spot onshore for this weekend’s 2009 Acura Miami Grand Prix.

The annual ten-race regatta begins this Thursday and runs through Sunday, as boats from four classes — IRCs 1 & 2, Farr 40, and Melges 32 — chase each other through the ocean off Miami Beach. Daily races will be run from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with post-sailing socials at the Miami Beach Marina (300 Alton Rd., Miami Beach) and an event-ending prize ceremony Monday evening. Now show up, master the bowline knot, and start saving for a second-hand sloop of your own — it just might trigger your transformation from spectator to sportsman. Visit premiere-racing.com for more details plus race week coverage and results.
