This year’s Caribbean Fest returns to its roots.

All right, all right — in years past, we’ve been not so kind to the annual Caribbean Festival, previously known as the Bob Marley Fest. But can you blame us? With previous lineups blending thuggish hip-hop elements and random pop music wonders, some local fans grew skeptical. We’re happy to report the fest has returned to its roots. Dismiss your fears and emancipate yourself from mental slavery. This year’s lineup will surely result in clouds of joy floating over beautiful Bayfront Park. And guess what? Our favorite local reggae DJ, Lance-O, will host the event!

“Everybody on this year’s lineup is amazing. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the performances, even the headliners. This is the festival’s 16th year, and it’s a tribute to Mother B — Cedella Marley Booker — who passed away last year,” Lance-O explains. Many of the artists on the bill are in the bloodline: Stephen, Damian, Julian, and Ky-Mani Marley will all perform, and fleshing out the all-star progeny will be Jamaican superstars Buju Banton, Capleton, and Sizzla; Bermuda’s own Collie Buddz; and Miami-based roots-rock reggae band Jahfe. Tickets cost $36, plus four cans of food (or an equivalent monetary donation). Call 305-740-7344, or visit bobmarleymovement.com.
