By Brooklyn, as told to Arielle Castillo

Published on February 03, 2009 at 3:53pm

"Brooklyn," as the day manager of downtown Miami's The Vagabond is known, has done and seen it all around the South Florida music scene since arriving from New York 12 years ago. Catch him occasionally in Burner and every Wednesday on CrossFade, New Times' music blog, at blogs.miaminewtimes.com/crossfade.

What I would like to talk about this week is me being a jackass. Recently, I wrote about predatory men and slutty women, and it has come to my attention that people got the impression I was bashing certain clubs, which I wasn't. The Vagabond and its neighbors take proper safety measures, not just for women but also for everyone. That might entail walking someone to his or her car, or just saying, Yo, my friend, I think you've had a little too much to drink; why don't I give you this bottle of water on the house.

What I wrote was not meant to bash anyone or hurt anyone's feelings or to change anyone's mind about the place they are going to attend that evening. If that's the impression I left, I apologize. I only meant to warn people about the dangers that can happen in that type of environment, and to be aware.

Again, I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to anyone whose feelings I might have hurt. Yes, sometimes even I can be a jackass.

Also, here at The Vagabond this week, we lost a key family member, Adam Hernandez. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones. Adam, you will always be in our hearts and minds.

Five albums I'm listening to this week: (1) As Friends Rust, An Anthology of Short Fiction and Nonfiction; (2) Band #12, demo — they're straight out of Pompano; (3) Bane, It All Comes Down to This; (4) Baroness, Red Album; and (5) The Bars, Introducing...
