Get Your Artsy Groove Back

The Miami Beach Festival of the Arts is a pro at this

From its humble beginnings as a local street show to an event that now draws nearly 50,000 folks from all parts to North Beach’s seaside promenade, the Miami Beach Festival of the Arts has evolved into a rollicking family-friendly affair. Now in its 35th year, it is the oldest arts festival in Miami Beach and boasts booths brimming with art that won’t bust the wallet, lively performances, and a cornucopia of epicurean treats. This festive, two-day community event showcases the juried artwork of more than 150 unique artists from across the nation, exhibiting paintings, sculptures, glass works, ceramics, jewelry, and photography. Craving some Jamaican jerk chicken, a Greek gyro, or some tasty arepas? Don’t worry — you’ll find these favorites and other delights in abundance here. The festival also features plenty of free activities for the kids, including a children’s gallery with hands-on arts and crafts. This year’s musical treats include the Spam Allstars, Locos Por Juana, Conjunto Progreso, and Suenalo — all free this Saturday and Sunday.
Sat., Feb. 7, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 2009
