The Next Generation of Installations

Behold future possibilities at the Frost Art Museum.

There is a growing belief in art’s healing nature, with many health-care institutions across the nation embracing its power to rejuvenate and uplift those struggling with life’s challenges. This Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Frost Art Museum, the Target Wednesday After Hours series will explore the healing power of art and the artistic process during the launch of ArtWorks!, a joint initiative by the Frost and Miami-Dade County Public Schools Clinical Art Therapy Department to promote cultural support of art as a source of regeneration. Local artist Xavier Cortada will discuss his worldwide installations that address issues of healing, be they environmental, physical, or emotional. His sweeping 40-foot digital tapestries, inspired by the four elements, will greet visitors to the museum.

“Exploration of Self,” a powerful exhibition of works by Miami-Dade County Public School students, will be on view, and art therapist Enid Garber will discuss art therapy and its impact on youths. The events are free and open to the public.
