Coral Gables Is Alive with Music (and Art)

And best of all, it’s free.

Once your alarm clock hums the arrival of Friday morning, eschew the Monday-to-Thursday routine of hitting the snooze button and let the sun’s rays wake you for work. We know your weekend actually started last night and gave you a hangover for breakfast, but if you can just make it to quittin’ time, Art in the Park is awaiting your weekend-hungry bod. Since October 2008, the festival has latched onto the Gables gallery night walks and added the best of Latino art and music. Acts such as Suenalo, Santamorena, and Grammy nominees Locos por Juana have graced the stage and made this the official destination for live jazz and Latin funk the whole family can enjoy. You can pick out a stogy to puff in the cigar lounge, and stroll the tents featuring the works of 50 local artists. There will be live painting demos and displays of crafts, fine jewelry, paintings, and photography. The young’uns can enjoy creating their own masterpieces under the expert direction of artist Marcy Grosse at the Kids Art Village, while the grownups suck on stogies in the cigar lounge. The party rocks from 6 p.m. to midnight at Ponce Circle Park, and admission is free.
Fri., Jan. 2, 6 p.m., 2009
