Uva 69 opened up a brave new hope for residents of the beleaguered Biscayne Boulevard. The charming indoor/outdoor bistro aimed to bring alfresco dining to a bustling thoroughfare best known for hosting an overt and brisk black-market trade. But owners Sinhue and Michael Vega aimed even higher, planning to rescue the 1920s Mediterranean-style building in the historic MiMo district and elevate it to a kind of ultimate neighborhood joint in a locale without neighborhood joints. The little café that could now also houses a fascinating and ever-evolving art gallery in back, and with the Starbucks across the street, the corner of Biscayne and 69th is a place to meet for brunch and business lunches. And now thanks to Uva 69’s Friday happy hour, it’s a place to unwind, mingle, and erase the workweek stress from your mind with fabulicious cocktails. Drinks are half off from 4 to 6 p.m., and that includes the amazing coconut mojitos (which come served with a sprinkling of fresh grated coconut) and blackberry lemon drop martinis, which will haunt your dreams.
