Armchair Revolutionaries, Unite

The Battle in Seattle is on in Coral Gables.

Miami knows riots. Our volcanically inclined metropolis has erupted in bloodshed on more than one occasion. Sometimes the cops start it, sometimes the people, but either way riots tend to yield little more than destroyed communities and dead bodies. That’s why some thrills are best felt vicariously. As much fun as it sounds to throw a chair through a corporate coffee shop window, moral and legal ramifications suggest that visual consumption of such acts might be safer. Unwrap that black bandanna from your face, take the rock out of your hand, and admit it: You just wanna break stuff. Let surround sound do the talking for you at the Bill Cosford Cinema’s exclusive Miami run of Battle in Seattle.

The film captures the tensions surrounding the World Trade Organization’s ministerial meeting in 1999, which provoked tens of thousands of protesters to take to the streets of Seattle. The film — starring Andre “Bombs over Baghdad” 3000, Woody Harrelson, Charlize Theron, and Jennifer Carpenter — is sure to please your antiestablishment views between chugs from your favorite bucket of soda. Sit back, relax, and ignore the gnawing sense of your own personal responsibility toward fighting for change. Tickets cost eight dollars, and the movie screens Saturday evening at 6, 8, and 10 p.m.
