Dana Keith, director of the Miami Beach Cinematheque, is using Soviet montage filmmaking as the basis for a visual experiment in bringing two worlds together. Not Marxists and capitalists, you swine — we’re talking about classic and modernist. This Sunday night’s edition of MBC’s Silents, Please! film series features the epic, digitally restored Que Viva Mexico!

DJ Maximus 3000 will score the film live. “It’s a new spin on the art of DJing. I’m not playing to the audience; I’m creating the soundtrack to the film, which will in turn affect the audience,” he says. The event will also include a wine-and-cheese closing reception for an exhibit of Leo Matiz’s Frida Kahlo portraits.
