Don’t Hit My Balls

Watch the Pool Players in Paradise instead.

If you see a felt-covered table with six deep pockets, a set of colorful balls, and a pair of cue sticks, prepare to be hustled. Not that every billiards game played in smoky bars and musty basements across the country pits an undercover pro against a hapless amateur, but, uh, it’s possible. Beating this shark takes skill and a recollection of those eighth-grade geometry lessons, but you could totally rely on pure luck to get a few balls in the hole. Or you could watch the pros at Pool Players in Paradise and hope you’re a visual learner.

The ball-hitting extravaganza of world-class men and women billiards players ends this Saturday with everyone hoping to put the black ball in the corner pocket at the right time. The tournament has been going on since Wednesday and has seen former NFL and Miami Dolphins legends Mark Clayton and Mark Duper competing with pros and local celebrities. Chalk your cue at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Tickets start at $20; visit www.ticketmaster.com to get yours.
