We Want Our Baby-Backs

That Colonel Sanders was full of big talk, bragging about his chicken being finger-lickin’ good. KFC is greasy goodness, sure — but we don’t lick our fingers for just any delicacy. Nay, we prefer to save our salivation for nobler, juicier foodstuffs. Such as ribs. Mmmm, ribs. So tender, so saucy. We’re hard-pressed to come up with a meat delicacy that’s more delicious — or more patriotic. Yeah, that’s right. Ribs are all-American fare, prepared lovingly by Joe the Plumbers and Southern-fried hockey moms all across real portions of the United States. We’ll be ever so proud to lick our fingers at Ribfest 2008 — South Florida's largest barbecue festival and Miami-Dade Parks' annual three-day signature event. And this year Miller Lite is presenting it. Hot diggity dog!

The fest d’food kicks off Friday and ends this Sunday at the Homestead Air Reserve Park, so come on down for cuisine by award-winning cooks who take barbecue seriously. Besides ribs, there’ll be competition for the best pork, brisket, chicken, and sauce, as well as damn good roasted corn, baked beans, chili, and ice cream. Wash it all down with a cold brew and some hot live music — the Classic Rock All-Stars are back by popular demand, and the Atlanta Rhythm Section and country music singer Rodney Atkins will be crowd pleasers. Add that to the carnival rides, arts and crafts, classic cars, hayrides, horse shows, and Winn-Dixie family fun zone complete with petting zoo and children’s games, and you’ve got yourself a full day of family togetherness. Admission is 10 bucks for adults, free for little ones under 10 years of age
