Paco OsunaBy Saby Reyes-KulkarniPublished on October 29, 2008 at 8:02amCharacterized by spare, repetitive house beats, the work of self-described minimalist DJ Paco Osuna is based on an insistent throb — the idea here is to move your body until you reach an exercise high. More than that, however, Osuna imbues his music with a dreamy component that never veers into outright ambient territory, but can reach hypnotizing lift-off nonetheless. Hailing from Barcelona, Spain, Osuna likens his DJ sets to live ones because of how he uses various machines to generate sounds. A veteran techno enthusiast in a scene known for its rapid rate of change, Osuna has unsurprisingly modified his approach since first getting on the decks in '95. Most recently, he has slowed down the bpm considerably, but still retains, in his own words, "that techno soul."
