Vote for Popcorn

The folks at Sweat Records endorse this message.

In a perfect world, this year’s presidential election would have been as simple as lounging in front of a TV set and indulging in a little couch-side commentary. Anchors would report the facts, pundits would plead the case for their side of the issue, and Americans could proceed to spew their views straight to the TV screen. No harm, no foul. Unfortunately we are social creatures and many of us have dragged our political proclivities out of Pandora’s box. The Obama/McCain debate has caused friendships to disintegrate. One guy even stabbed his wife when she didn’t share his Obama love. Alas, there’s only one more day for we the people to cast our votes and choose the next dude to try to mop up the mess that good ol’ Dubya has made. The night before you tackle the hanging chad’s successor, take a break from MSNBC and head to Sweat Records (5505 NE Second Ave., Miami) for the election-themed Movie Music Monday.

Each week, owner Lauren Reskin and the Sweat fam bring indie-film love to Lil’ Haiti, and this Monday’s screening of the appropriately titled documentary about Joe Strummer of The ClashThe Future Is Unwritten — promises to bring more of the same. Will a heated debate ensue? Maybe, but there’s only one more day before it’s all over. Seating starts at 8 p.m., and the film begins at 8:30.
Mon., Nov. 3, 7:30 p.m., 2008
