Boo!

So many Halloween events it’s almost scary.

Is it any surprise that our favorite verse of the classic Geto Boys hip-hop song “My Mind Playin’ Tricks on Me” belongs to Bushwick Bill? Although the diminutive rapper’s verse turns out to be just a disturbing illusion, we still get excited when we hear someone say, “This year, Halloween fell on a weekend.” Because we know that Halloween on a Friday night means spooky debauchery well into the early morning, with days of near-catatonic recovery time to propel you ever forward. So where will you and your hood rats go trick-or-treating? We have some suggestions.

The Monsters Ball will be going down at Karma (7010 Biscayne Blvd, Miami). It begins at 8 p.m., but you might want to get there later on for art installations, a haunted house, and live performances by Animals of the Arctic, This Heart Electric, and The Continental Duo. But don’t get there too late — there’s free beer until midnight and one-dollar cocktails all night long! Visit www.themonstersball.net. If you want to push the envelope with a costume that gets people talking, might we recommend HollowDream? Touted as the be-all and end-all of Halloween events, this is the costume ball where Miami’s finest don their most fantastic disguises. Take the elevator to the 55th floor, enter the Havana Club (200 S. Biscayne Blvd., Ste. 5500, Miami), and get down to DJ Erok in the main room and DJ Ariel Assault in the red room. Tickets cost $50 at the door. Call 305-968-2384, or visit www.hollowdream.com. At the first Segafredo Brickell Halloween party, there’ll be a “ghoulish cemetery and haunted trail.” Yeah, yeah — can you pass us one of those “special scary drinks”? Thanks. This bash will run early — 4 to 11 p.m. — at Segafredo (1421 S. Miami Ave., Miami). Call 305-577-9809. If you prefer your All Hallow's Eve to have a charitable component, do the time warp at the third annual Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloween fundraiser, benefiting environmental group ECOMB, at the Colony Theater (1040 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach). The screening (and screaming) begins at 9 p.m. Twenty-five bucks gets you entrance and a free drink. Call 305-674-1040. Farther up on Lincoln, SushiSamba Dromo (600 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach) will host Spooky Kabooki, an evening of themed cocktails and costume contests. Best dressed will be named "Treat of the Trick" and win a free trip to Vegas, complete with dinner at SushiSamba's newest outpost, Strip. The contest begins at 11 p.m. Call 305-673-5337, or visit www.sushisamba.com. For even more Halloween events, search our Music database, in the upper left-hand corner of this page, and type "Halloween" in the Event Keywords box.
