Thanks to Susan G. Komen and the “For the Cure” marketing wizards, breast cancer has become an issue almost everyone is aware of. Now the pale pink ribbon is a ubiquitous symbol of hope and perseverance, and supporters of the cause can purchase anything from a roll of paper towels to a KitchenAid mixer to donate to cancer research. This weekend promises some truly worthwhile events for anyone who cares about finding a cure. The ever-popular annual Miami/Fort Lauderdale Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure kicks off at Bayfront Park with a survivor procession at 7:30 a.m. The race itself will begin at 8:30. Admission is $35 race day. Visit www.komenmiaftl.org.
For the ladies, there’s a way to knock out breast cancer while keeping “the girls” happy. Wacoal’s Fi(gh)t for the Cure hits Neiman Marcus at the Village of Merrick Park (390 San Lorenzo Ave., Coral Gables). For every customer who receives a complimentary fitting in a Wacoal, DKNY, or Donna Karan Intimates bra, and signs up for a monthly breast exam e-mail reminder, Wacoal will donate two bucks to the Susan G.
