Hip, Hip, Hooray!

It’s Biscayne National Park’s birthday!

Biscayne National Park turns 40 this year. If the nation’s largest submerged national park were a person, he or she would probably commemorate the occasion by deciding which cherry-red sports car to purchase. But it’s not. The landmark is ringing in the anniversary with a month of events. And after years of staving off greedy developers, this tropical sanctuary deserves it. The party has been rockin’ since October 1 with a monthlong exhibit titled “Biscayne Bay: Then and Now,” a visual celebration of the park’s evolution. So mosey on down to the Richmond Cottage, on the picturesque grounds of the Deering Estate at Cutler (16701 SW 72nd Ave., Palmetto Bay) until November 14 for a peek into the future.

And after you’ve gotten your spoonful of knowledge, head to Biscayne National Park the ultimate birthday party. Grant Livingston will perform, Lloyd Miller will sign copies of his latest book, and plenty of games and activities will be held for you and the family. How do you celebrate the birth of Biscayne National Park? Find out this Sunday from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
