Some people like their news “fair and balanced.” Others prefer to watch broadcasts on “the place for politics.” But between cable news channels such as Fox, CNN, and MSNBC, many stories fall through the cracks. That’s why we thank Jah for the Internet — the magical series of tubes that has transformed the speed and urgency of information. Thanks to the question-askers and information-analyzers who aren’t employed by Clear Channel, Viacom, General Electric, or News Corp, new voices and fresh perspectives have been springing up like plucky wildflowers from rocky terrain. At the Independent Media Tour, you’ll get a chance to hear directly from a coalition of journalists, activists, and media reformers that is changing the landscape of print, television, radio, and online journalism today.

There will be performances, presentations, and discussions by traditional media makers as well as the young Turks of the WWW. It’s going down Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Miami Workers Center
Fri., Oct. 10, 7-9 p.m.; Sat., Oct. 11, 1-5 p.m., 2008
